Can I use my Mantis Tiller/Cultivator to chop up garden residue at the end of the growing season...things like tomato plants, bean vines, etc?
Yes, use your Mantis Tiller to chop up some garden residue and turn it into the soil. The tiller is especially useful for chopping and turning leafy material; some vine materials may need to be chopped into smaller pieces with a shovel or spade to prevent them from wrapping around the tines. Using your Mantis Tiller at the end of the season to turn under garden residue can significantly improve your soil for next year's garden.
TopHow long does it take to till an average size garden with the Mantis Tiller?
A 20' x 40' garden can be tilled with the Mantis Tiller in approximately 20 minutes.
TopWhat is the difference between tilling and cultivating?
Tilling is preparing the soil for planting. The Mantis Tiller/Cultivator can till down 8 to 10 inches. Cultivating eliminates weeds and loosens compacted soil to encourage root growth and permit penetration of water and fertilizer.
TopDo you have to walk backwards with the Mantis Tiller/Cultivator?
For best results we recommend a forward and back motion (as you would use a vacuum cleaner). You can cultivate loose soil in a forward direction; but, hard packed soil will require tilling in a backward direction for best results. The patented tine design enables our light-in-weight tiller to dig into even the toughest soil.
The Mantis Tiller/Cultivator tills 8 to 10 inches deep. If you remove loose soil, it will till deeper. By simply removing and reversing the tines, it will cultivate up to 3” deep.
TopWill the Mantis Tiller/Cultivator cut through sod?
Yes…it will break new ground for vegetable and flower beds, dig holes for planting trees and shrubs, dig trenches for wiring for low-voltage lighting.
